Bobby Shmurda Shmoney Dances To No. 1 with 'Hot Boy'
Fourteen weeks after first landing on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with his debut single “Hot Boy,” Bobby Shmurda reaches the No. 1 spot. The crowning track rises 3-1, and takes Streaming Gainer honors with a 45 percent rise to 11.5 million domestic streams in the week ending Nov. 9, according to Nielsen BDS.
YouTube and Vevo had a combined 9.1 million views during the tracking week. Clicks were up by 53,000 on Spotify, where the song logged 1.8 million weekly listens. The rise allows “Hot Boy” to spend a fifth consecutive week at No. 1 on Rap Streaming Songs.
The song spurred a viral wave, stemming from a dance featured in the music video, dubbed the shmoney dance. Vine users made the trend take off, uploading 6-second interpretations by the masses. Celebs from Chris Brown to Soulja Boy have uploaded videos emulating the craze. Rihanna also cosigned the fad in a series of Instagram posts. Even Beyonce and Jay Z were spotted pulling out the moves during their On The Run tour.
